Beginners
The beginner groups consist of fun constructive activities together with structural lessons which enables them to master basic water skills. The teachers are proud of the fact that the children cannot wait until the next lesson.
In the beginner groups the children are learning how much fun swimming can be.The teachers encourage a programme of confidence building activities, and introduce strokes which helps the children dispel any anxiety they may have.
Pupils start swimming with aids and as they gradually build in confidence the aids are discarded. From the child’s first lesson they are taught Front Paddle then Backstroke, as their confidence builds we progress them to Front crawl and Breaststroke together with underwater and breathing skills.
The children love the water games using various toys, which they find so stimulating. Goggles can be a tremendous advantage to the young swimmer and they open up a whole new underwater world to be explored. However it is also important that goggles are not relied upon as swimming without them is a life saving skill.
Be aware that the children work extremely hard with out realising it. Having so much fun can be very exhausting!
