When You Can Swim PDF Print E-mail
Girl Diving into a pool

Swimming provides one of the best 'workouts' the human body can get. It can be enjoyed by young or old. After you have succeeded in learning to swim confidently there are many other water activities to enjoy.

Competitive swimming

Racing as a child can be such stimulating fun. The training is very hard work and swimmers need to be very dedicated to their sport. The all round fitness of a swimmer is second to none compared to other sports. There are plenty of local clubs of different standards to choose from.

Hart Swimming Club

Rushmoor Royals Swimming Club

Guildford City Swimming Club

Most swimming clubs have a trial period for the children before any commitment is made. Masters swimming is racing for adults above the age of 25. There are several racing groups in 5 year age bands. The atmosphere is very relaxed or as competitive as you would like to make it. Most local clubs cater for the master swimmer providing training times and coaches at your local pool. There isn't any pressure to compete - some swimmers just like to train as fitness swimmers. All ages and standards are welcome.

Synchronised Swimming

So beautiful to watch, the girls put so much work and effort into their routines. Not only do the swimmers need to be flexible and agile but also strong swimmers with the ability to hold their breath for long periods of time (and then come up smiling!). We run synchro lessons on a Monday evening. There are very active 'synchro' clubs available in the local area which are extremely successful, Synchronised swimming also has Masters competitions for women over the age of 25.

Life Saving

In the UK there are many local sports centres offering tuition for qualifications for the Royal Life Saving Society, for example NPLQ (National Pool Lifegarding Qualification). If you intend to pursue open water activities of any kind Life Saving qualifications are essential. Here at Farnborough Fins we are pleased to offer Rookie Lifeguard, which is aimed at children 8 years and over, this course works at building important lifeguarding and lifesaving skills.

Canoeing and Rowing

The UK has a strong tradition in rowing and canoeing. There are local rivers and lakes used for practice as well as some local swimming pools. Swimmers need to be very confident in the water with some knowledge of personal survival techniques.

Sub Aqua

Such a wonderful activity to experience for the older swimmer. There are a variety of qualifications to achieve which can lead to diving in exotic locations around the world. Some clubs use local pools to practice.

Sailing & Watersports
Many local lakes provide facilities for teaching the young and old the skills needed for windsurfing, water-skiing, sailing and boating. Superb for holidaying with the family and learning all the techniques of boating and sailing. You must be a strong swimmer and as much knowledge of Life Saving skills is also important.
