Toddlers PDF Print E-mail

toddler with armbandsToddlers (from 2 years and 6 months) swimming can be the most enjoyable lessons to watch. The teachers and swimmers have so much fun, even though occasionally the toddlers are unpredictable!

While the children are so young, style and technique are of minor importance, whereas enjoyment and achievement are of much greater relevance.

The sessions revolve around constructive play, which gains their trust resulting in that special teacher/ pupil relationship. Teachers are extremely sympathetic to any nervous toddlers and the confidence is gradually built up by playing with many toys in the pool. The children really enjoy this, pretending to be speed boats or sea horses with the woggles. They play with different toys, sing activity songs, and adore making the biggest splashes when jumping in. The children learn water skills as well as swimming in order to help with good body positions in the water and strong arm and leg actions.

The little ones are encouraged to float on their backs and front, until they become totally relaxed, and then armbands, if worn, are gradually deflated or removed in a controlled teaching environment.

They work extremely hard!

Dolphin with a woggle.

The beginner groups consist of fun constructive activities together with structural lessons which enables them to master several water skills. The teachers are proud of the fact that the children cannot wait until the next lesson.

In the beginner groups the children are challenged into coming to terms with the water and discovering its supportive nature. To help them adjust to the swimming environment the teachers encourage a programme of confidence building activities, which helps the children dispel anxiety.

Pupils start swimming with aids and as they gradually build in confidence the aids are discarded. From the child’s first lesson they are taught Doggy Paddle then Backstroke, Front crawl and Breaststroke together with underwater and breathing skills.

The children love the water games using several toys, which they find so stimulating. Goggles can be a tremendous advantage to the young swimmer and they open up a whole new underwater world to be explored. It is also important that goggles are not relied upon as swimming without them is a life saving skill.

Be aware that the children work extremely hard with out realising it.
Having so much fun can be very exhausting!

Improvers PDF Print E-mail
Boy swimming The main aim of our improver groups is to perfect children's Front crawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke technique with emphasis on breathing techniques. The Improver groups are also taught Butterfly for the first time and enjoy becoming dolphins in the water.

As the children progress they are taught the basics for competition swimming to a standard which enables them to participate in other water sport activities available to them outside the swimming school.  On completion of all these skills, a Farnborough Fins swimmer can be sure of the having the knowledge and confidence to enjoy any aquatic activity from synchro to scuba.
